SUMMARY:Member Workshop: Board Power Dynamics & Privilege
DESCRIPTION:The Standards of Excellence Committee is pleased to announce a member workshop hosted by The New Philanthropists on Power Dynamics & Privilege. \nEVENT DESCRIPTION \nJoin us as we identify the different types of power dynamics between leadership teams and their boards\, the cause and effects of these dynamics\, and learn how to move from power hoarding to power sharing practices within leadership circles. \nIn addition\, we will focus on how traditional nonprofit roles and practices are historically rooted in mistrust\, and what strategies can be implemented to foster trust-based board service and leadership. \nGuests will leave feeling more secure in their ability to: \n\nUnderstand the different types of power dynamics\, cause and effects and barriers.\nIdentify practical\, applicable strategies to transition from power hoarding to power sharing practices in their leadership circles.\nExplore roles within a nonprofit hierarchy and how to create a healthy culture focused on power sharing.\n\nEVENT DETAILS \nWho: OVCT Members and those within the organization who work closely with board members. She specializes in providing relational leadership and strategic direction to social service agencies by coordinating the administrative functions and operations. Her expertise lies in developing efficiencies within complex systems and infrastructures. Sharon’s key to success is in the way I operationalize Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion. Throughout her career she has demonstrated an exceptional ability for meeting organizational goals and demands while elevating the voices of those in the communities we serve. \n  \nCo-Facilitator: Paulina Artieda \nTitle: Executive Director\, The New Philanthropists \nBio: With over 15 years of experience in marketing\, Paulina is a driven and self-directed Creative Thinker that has focused her career on delivering solutions for multicultural communities\, as well as helping clients connect with audiences in relevant and meaningful ways. As Executive Director of The New Philanthropists\, she leads all efforts in making nonprofit boards more diverse and inclusive. She is passionate about elevating the discussion on diversity\, equity and inclusion among leadership circles and in helping add more seats at tables where representation is crucial.
