The One Voice Diversity Task Force is bringing back by popular demand "The Power of Perception, Is It Real or Is It Me?" workshop. This is the same training offered earlier this year.
Facilitated by One Voice member DeWayne Street (Goodwill Central Texas), the workshop will examine some of the more salient aspects of diversity such as racism, sexism, class, age, sexual orientation and the power of media to shape our perceptions about all of these issues.
The hallmark of this workshop is that it is based on a historical foundation, which allows the participants to see the systemic patterns of discrimination and marginalization. This workshop includes video clips, still photos, and text slides, it also allows participants to construct their own meaning regarding diversity. After the presentation portion of the workshop, participants will be placed in groups of 5-7 and asked to discuss and solve real-life diversity problems. They will then be asked to share their deliberations with the larger group so that all will be exposed to each of the scenarios. The entire workshop, with a built in break will take 3 hours.
Who should attend: This workshop is open to nonprofit staff and community members. There is no limit on the number of staff who may attend per agency.
Seats are limited and filling quickly so please register today! In the event that all seats are taken, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be placed on the waiting list.
