One Voice Executive Directors, their Board members, staff and volunteers filled the Media Room at City Hall this past Tuesday to stand in support for a $6.7M funding increase for Health and Human Services in the City budget. One Voice chair Tod Marvin opened the conference telling a tale of a city divided by a widening economic gap, and the pressing need for the City of Austin to address the disparity by investing in Health and Human Services. Our message isn’t going unheard – we were joined by City council members Kathie Tovo, Ora Houston, Delia Garza, Gregorio Casar and Ann Kitchen, who all spoke to the media advocating for a funding increase.
“What is a booming economy for, if we remain such a segregated economy, if we remain such a segregated city?” – Council member Gregorio Casar
The event and campaign garnered attention from the Austin Monitor, Community Impact, and the Austin Chronicle (here and here). We extend a big thank you to all the City council members and One Voice members that attended the event and made it such a great success.
