At the June 20 Member Meeting, it was unanimously voted that One Voice would write a letter supporting Affordable Child Care Now, a broad coalition convened by United Way for Greater Austin that comprises Travis County civic organizations, businesses, and community members who support equitable access to affordable, quality childcare for all.
This letter supports a ballot initiative in Travis County that would generate sustainable funding each year to support quality, affordable child care, including early childhood care and afterschool programming and summer programs. This would add more funding to expand access to quality programs for children and youth, support working families, and help to provide better pay to staff and resources for children and youth across Travis County. This letter was sent to Judge Andy Brown and the Travis County Commissioners today. This item is not yet on the ballot – letters will help influence its final placement.
If your organization would like to sign a letter of support, the Affordable Child Care Now coalition has created a website where you can easily Take Action using a form they’ve created which will auto-populate a letter which can be edited and be sent to all relevant parties. We know there was some interest from members in supporting this ballot initiative on a more personal/professional level, so we wanted to share.
